As a result of over 400 years of White-washing, with the constant barrage of negative depictions of Blacks and Africa in books, magazines, radio, movies and then television, by the early 1960s many Blacks didn’t want to be associated with their homeland. Malcolm X recognized this growing hatred and or disconnect in the so-called Negro, and as a result, he constantly challenged this mentality in most of his speeches. The notion was that if Blacks continued down the path of hating Africa, the roots, and the connections with their African heritage, they would never advance as a people.
